As a Sergeant in the Commercial Vehicle Division, he provided oversight of multiple state and federal programs and was a Certified Safety Auditor with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA). In this role, he conducted audits to ensure strict compliance with federal regulations governing commercial vehicles, including motor coaches and school buses.
Recognized for his expertise in safety and compliance, Paul served as the State Program Director for the USDOT New Entrant Safety Audit Program and was elected to the New Entrant National Steering Committee in Washington, D.C., where he contributed to shaping national safety standards. He is highly trained in advanced accident investigation and has led inquiries into serious and fatal crashes.
Later in his career, he transitioned to the Office of Pupil Transportation Safety within the State Patrol, where he played a critical role in training, outreach, compliance audits, and crash investigations specific to pupil transportation. His deep involvement in state legislation at the Minnesota State Capitol and his leadership as the lead investigator in high-profile school bus and motor vehicle crashes underscore his expertise in safety, operations, and policy advocacy.
After retiring from the State Patrol in 2017, Paul transitioned into the private sector, where he has spent the last seven years as a Safety Director, Fleet Director, and now Operations Director in the school transportation industry. In his role as Director of Operations at MTN, he leverages his vast experience to enhance operational efficiency, fleet safety, driver training, and compliance with state and federal regulations.
